APUNTOLAPOSPO, a Grupo Vértice 360 company, has been chosen by Contrapunto to make a 3D version for cinema of the TV advert "halos" by Gas Natural Fenosa.
The Barcelona-based post-production company is one of the world's pioneers of stereoscopic 3D and has more experience than any other Spanish company in this domain. Past successes include the first European production in 3D of "Magic Journey to Africa", which combines real images with CG, the first stereoscopic 3D pop video: "Me tienes contenta", the first live stereoscopic broadcast to cinema screens, from the Liceu Theatre (Barcelona), featuring a rehearsal of the Beethoven opera "Fidelio"; and the first TV recordings in 3D of "LLITS", the stage play by Lluís Danés starring Albert Pla for TVC, as well as concerts by Bunbury and Alejandro Sanz filmed for Canal + .
For the Gas Natural Fenosa ad they moved away from the original TV concept, which was only used as a reference as they had to start almost from scratch to make the 3D version for cinemas. The project, carried out in conjunction with the creative team from Contrapunto in Apuntolapospo's installations and 3D projection room, called for a reinvention of the visual effects used in the 2D version in order to bring them into the world of 3D. Firstly, all the objects had to be placed in space and then, using composition, the occlusion criteria were set. In this instance, the colour responses and the textures when viewed in 3D were extraordinary, giving a richness of feeling which far surpassed what had been achieved in two dimensions. Not only that, the stereoscopic treatment of the graphical part of the ad, the texts and logos, also gave much more spectacular results than could ever have been hoped for in a flat 2D world.
Then, as a final gesture, APUNTOLAPOSPO remade the special 5.1 mix for cinemas.
